Kevin McElwee, DVM

Kevin McElwee

Dr. Kevin McElwee was born in a central West Virginia farming community. His interest in veterinary medicine began at an early age and was piqued by his school librarian aunt who gave him James Herriot’s books to read. During his summers, he worked at a mixed animal practice, gaining experience with large and small animals and cementing his decision to pursue veterinary medicine as a career. He attended West Virginia University and graduated in three years with a B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science.

Following graduation from the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, Dr. McElwee began practice at Cartersville Animal Hospital, becoming the owner in 1997.

Dr. McElwee has always been active in volunteer service clubs and organized veterinary medicine.  He is a 26 year member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association.  He served as President of the Northwest Georgia Veterinary Medical Association in 1994, then as a member of the Board of Directors to the Georgia VMA. While a director, he was Chairman of the Public Relations committee, member of the Executive Board, chaired several task forces, and served on the Legislative Action Committee, Budget and Finance Committee, and on the working group that developed the State of Georgia’s Spay-Neuter license plate program. He was elected in 2005 to the Presidency of the GVMA. During his yearlong term, Dr. McElwee travelled the state, meeting and listening to other Veterinarian’s issues and concerns, worked at the State Capitol on legislative issues that dealt with veterinarians, spoke to the students at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, and wrote the Policies and Procedures Manual for the GVMA.

Dr. McElwee has been a long time member of the Cartersville-Bartow County Exchange, serving as President, Secretary, Director, Chair of the Child Abuse Prevention Month committee and as Chair to the annual Exchange Club Christmas Parade. He and his family are members of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where he has served on the Administrative Board and on the Nominations and Leadership Development Committee.

He is a Webelos leader for the Cub Scouts and volunteers time for the District and Council levels of the Boy Scouts of America.  In his spare time, he enjoys college football, camping and spending time with his family.

He met his wife Dana in 1995 and they were married in 1998. They have two children, a daughter named Ally and a son named Kase. Their family also includes a Buddy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a cat named Cutie and Briggs, a Golden Retriever.

Rick Moore, DVM

Rick Moore

Dr. Rick Moore obtained his DVM degree from the University of Tennessee in 1982. Prior to veterinary school, he served as an active duty officer and pilot in the U.S. Army and in the Tennessee Army National Guard until 1984. He has been in private general practice for 30 years. He has served as President of his local professional veterinary chapter and has been an active member of the American Animal Hospital Association, serving on the Council of 100 and as Regional Director.

Dr. Moore maintains professional associations with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Feline Practitioner's Association, and the Emergency and Critical Care Society. He also has memberships with the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and the North Georgia Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Moore feels that quality medicine, client education and building relationships are the most important aspects of his job. He enjoys the small, private practice atmosphere where he can become intimately involved in his patient's healthcare needs. He loves veterinary medicine and looks forward to coming to work each and every day.

In his spare time, Dr. Moore enjoys working on his farm, gardening and spending time with his family. He is married to Joan, who works with him in the practice. They have three grown children and are grandparents to Emma Cate and Broughton.They also have the "best dog in the world", Jackson, a Yellow Labrador Retriever.

Lisa Walker, DVM

Lisa Walker

Born and raised in Rome, Georgia, Dr. Lisa Walker and her family still live on the family farm, shared with lots of horses, cats, dogs, and any other species of animal that might come along.

Dr. Walker has always been all about animals of all kinds, and at the age of 12 decided she would become a veterinarian. She feels very blessed to be able to work daily in a profession she loves.

Attending Berry College as an undergraduate, Dr. Walker received her DVM degree from Auburn University in 1996. While in veterinary school, she worked for Animal Medical Center during summer breaks. In 2001, Dr. Walker became an associate veterinarian at Westside Animal Hospital and an owner of the practice in 2003.

Married to Clay, a corporal with the Rome Fire Department, they have two children: Josey Lynn and Elijah.
